England Won’t Follow Wales in Banning Vaping in Pubs
Vapers will still be able to use their e-cigarettes in English pubs from 2017, ignoring the move by the Welsh Government to ban the devices from public spaces. This is despite the fact that a recent study found that e-cigarettes produce no harmful toxins. Large organisations such as Cancer Research UK; British Heart Foundation Wales; and Action Against Smoking and Health are opposed to the ban. Chief Executive of the British Beer and Pub Association Brigid Simmonds believe each individual outlet should hold the right to determine whether e-cigarettes are allowed. JD Weatherspoon are such company to ban the devices on the grounds that employees couldn’t distinguish the vapours from real cigarette smoke. Kate Nicholls of the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers said she could see no logic in banning the devices as there’s no evidence of any health risk.
