FDA Delay 30th September Registration Deadline

The Food and Drug Administration, the body that regulates e-cigarettes and the vaping industry in the US, has revealed that it has delayed its 30th September deadline for e-cig manufacturers to register their facilities and products. Scott Gottlieb, an FDA Commissioner, revealed the delay on Twitter. It is not currently known when the new deadline is.

“We know there are logon issues with #FDA website system that also allows tobacco firms to register with FDA before Sept 30th deadline,” Gottlieb wrote on Twitter. “Owing to website connectivity problems re tobacco registration, we’ll be implementing a short term extension to allow firms to register.”

The delay was announced after manufacturers encountered issues uploading their product listings into the FDA’s online registration form, which was unable to support the amount of data entries. This lead to the FDA delaying the September 30th deadline.

Last year, it was revealed that e-cigs must undergo federal review in the US. News of the impending FDA registration created a frenzy recently among small e-cig and e-liquid business owners, presumably because they were unaware or had forgotten to register.
