What is an E-Liquid?

by Lexi Burgess

Everything You Need to Know About E-Liquids?

In simple terms, e liquid is the fluid that goes into your vape tank or comes in your pre-filled pod. It is an essential part of your vape experience. Without vape juice, there would be no vapour. When you take a drag, the battery inside your device warms the liquid. At this stage, the ejuice becomes a vapour and moves through the pen until you eventually inhale it.

Your favourite e liquid products can be reduced to two or three ingredients. Most liquids contain nicotine, flavourings, and a solvent. Vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG) are solvents and are often both used to achieve a certain kind of vape experience.

For example, vape juice made for sub ohm vapers will contain a high VG to PG ratio, usually around 70VG/30PG. This is because vegetable glycerin is known for creating a smoother vape hit than PG, which is essential for sub ohm vapers who need to take long drags. Without the addition of a solvent, e liquid would not exist as we know as we know it today.

How e liquid is made?

The process of making e liquid involves strict hygiene standards and high-quality suppliers. It is important for vape juice manufacturers to maintain a transparent supply chain because they are ultimately responsible for the products they produce.

The first step in the process is weighing the different components. In some cases, the components are weighed in an air filtered room to avoid contamination. People who work in e liquid production wear shoe covers, masks, and hair nets to ensure that the ejuice is not compromised in any way.

Following on from this, the mixture is blended. This can be accomplished either manually or by machines. Large vape liquid factories favour machines because of the high volume of product that they produce.

Next, the ejuice is poured into glass bottles or PET containers by specialist machines that ensure there is no wastage. The containers are then hermetically closed with a leak proof seal.

Labelling comes next and is an essential piece of the puzzle. Labels usually include information regarding the brand name, the flavourings inside the container, and any relevant health warnings. The bottles are then packed in cardboard boxes and ready to be sent to their destination.

Although the e liquid is packaged and ready to go, there are several safety controls that each bottle needs to undergo. Firstly, a visual control is conducted on the packaging to ensure that the information on each label is correct. Secondly, a composition analysis confirms that the mixture does not contain any harmful heavy metals such as aluminium, iron, and mercury. Thirdly, the lab’s microbiological analysis procedures ensure that the vape juice has not been contaminated by bacteria.

Even once the mixture has been analysed, the packaging must undergo intense scrutiny. The label must contain health warnings and pictograms, regardless of how little nicotine is in the vape liquid. Each container must display a batch number, which can allow vapers to trace the raw materials used within it, back to the date the juice was made, and even the operators in control of making it.

Ingredients:

However, not all e liquid recipes contain nicotine. Some compositions simply contain the base flavouring needed to mix your own ideal vape juice. These products are called shortfills, which are bottles which are not filled to maximum capacity. This means that there is space for advanced vapers to add in their own nic shot.

Nicotine shots typically come in 10ml bottles, and contain an intense concentrate of nicotine in 11mg, 18mg, and 20mg strength options. Because nicotine shots are absorbed into the bloodstream quicker than your average e cig liquid products, we only recommend them for our more advanced customers who are accustomed to an intense vape hit.

What e liquid is safe?

All the vape liquid in our online vape shop is safe for consumption. Both propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin have been tried and tested and are even used in other consumable products such as toothpaste and nicotine inhalers. Vegetable glycerin is used in a large range of everyday products such as cosmetics and skincare items.

It should be noted that experts do not recommend consuming e liquid products with a 100% vegetable glycerin base due to the density of the solvent. All the products in our shop contain a mixture of VG and PG, which is in line with recommendations. If you want to read more about this topic, click through to our ‘is vaping safe’ blog post.

How long does e liquid last?

E liquid UK products last for approximately one to two years. They are shelf-stable products, even once you have broken the seal and opened the bottle. Both VG and PG are natural preservatives, meaning that you can rely on your vape juice to stand the test of time.

For individual queries, always refer to the bottle itself or ask the manufacturer. Of course, how long your all-day-vape lasts depends on your personal vaping style.
Heavy users will find that they run through e cig liquid quicker than more moderate vapers. We recommend 100ml e liquid products for customers who prefer to vape more throughout the day.

Which e liquid lasts longer?

Different types of vape juice products last a different amount of time. When it comes to being economical with e liquid, there are lots of tips and tricks at your disposal. We recommend using higher nicotine strengths because the added intensity of the resulting vape hit means that you use less liquid. Pair high nicotine products with low power devices that contain a high resistance coil to further reduce consumption.

People who favour sub ohm vaping are likely to buy bigger batteries, which quickly deplete their e liquid. Most sub ohm vapers have no use for bulky devices during their day job, meaning it is a good idea to switch to a sleek kit with a smaller battery. Doing so will reduce vapour production, but also vape juice consumption.

What e liquid strength?

With so many products to choose from, it is easy to wonder which e liquid strength is the best for your needs. At Cigara, we make sure to cater to all our customers. This means that we stock a wide selection of nicotine strength vape liquid products including 0mg, 3mg, 6mg, 12mg, and 18mg options. Beginner vapers love our sliding scale of strengths because it means that they can transition from smoking to vaping without having to compromise on the intensity of their vape hit.

Like the name suggests, 0mg nicotine strength vape juice does not contain any nicotine which means that it is used purely as a vessel for flavour and clouds. 3mg and 6mg strength options are perfect for people who want to reduce their intake whilst still receiving a satisfying vape hit. The 12mg and 18mg e liquid products available in our online vape store are for more advanced users, who prefer an intense vape hit.

Vapers should reconsider their preferred nicotine strength when transitioning from standard vape liquid to nic salts. This is because nic salts are sourced from a naturally occurring form of nicotine found in tobacco leaves, and therefore are much stronger than their distilled counterparts. Nic salts are also absorbed into the bloodstream faster, which means that a 20mg strength nic salt will be less intense than an 18mg strength starter liquid. Our range of nic salts come in 10mg and 20mg options.
