Troubleshooting Vype Issues

Chances are that any questions you may have regarding your Vype ePen 3 or ePod device are the same as other users have. Here at myCigara, we have compiled a handy list of some of the most common Vype questions that users are curious about.

Why is My Vype Not Firing?

Why is My Vype Not Firing?

There are three main reasons for this. If the LED on your device is flashing, this is a sign of low battery. For the ePod, the green LED will flash ten times, for the ePen it will be ten flashes of the red LED. Charging your device’s battery to full should resolve this.

If your Vype device seems to have “suddenly” stopped working, and there’s nothing to indicate low battery levels, the device may simply have switched itself off. For safety reasons, both the ePen and ePod have an auto-off feature. After ten minutes of activity, these devices will automatically power off. Simply click the fire button three times to turn the device back on.

In addition, the ePen has a further safety feature. If the fire button is held down for 8 seconds, the device will automatically power off. This is designed to prevent the device accidentally activating, such as when stored in your pockets.

Is your device charged and switched, but still not producing vapour? This can sometimes occur due to the connection between the device’s battery and cartridge being obstructed. Obstruction is typically caused by a buildup of dirt or moisture. Remove the pod or cap from the device, and clean the slot with a clean, dry cloth to remove any excess dirt.

Why is My Vype Battery Not Charging?

If you’re unsure as to whether your Vype device is charging properly, it’s worth going through all of the factors related to charging your device. As mentioned above, both the ePen and the ePod have LED indication to let you know when your device is running low on battery - 10 red flashes for the ePen, 10 green for the ePod. Additionally, the ePen may display a solid, non-flashing red light indicating low battery.

The charge status of your device is likewise indicated by the LEDs. When charging, the green LED on the Vype ePod will appear. When it disappears, the device is fully charged and you can disconnect the charging cable.

For the ePen, there are different LED colours displayed, depending on the level of charge.

  • A pulsing red LED indicates a charge of 10% or less.
  • Solid red indicates a charge of between 10 to 60%
  • solid green indicates a nearly full charge.
  • Once fully charged, the LED will disappear and the ePen will switch off automatically.

If you have plugged your device in and it seems to be not charging, use a different charger plug, but always use the Vype charging cable supplied. If you have a spare battery, try charging this to rule out a faulty charger.

You can prolong the life of your battery by not allowing it to fully discharge. A fully discharged battery is harder to recharge. Sometimes, if a battery is older than 2-3 months, it will fail to recharge once fully depleted. It is recommended that you replace your batteries every 2-3 months, or if you notice a dip in performance. Otherwise, you run the risk of having to recharge your battery more often than is usual.

Why is My Vype Battery Not Charging?

Why is My Vype Leaking?

All vape kits can sometimes experience leaking and it’s no real cause for concern. With proper care and maintenance, however, this can be avoided. So, what causes leaking in vape devices?

When you take draws/hits on your vape kit, you’re pulling vapour up a tube and through the mouthpiece. When this vapour comes into contact with a cooler surface, such as the tube, it condenses to form droplets inside the tube.

These droplets will usually disappear by themselves. Additionally, the ePen 3 has a groove in the mouthpiece designed specifically for catching excess moisture. Should you nonetheless experience droplets forming on the outside of your device, you can simply wipe them off with a cloth.

So really, a leak is simply excess condensation building up and escaping the mouthpiece. This is typically caused by puffing too intensely on the device, and will normally clear up by itself.

Some users experience a gurgling sound coming from their device. This is usually a result of there not being enough power to heat the e liquid in their cartridges. Fully charging the device’s battery should solve this.

Why am I Getting a Low Nicotine Hit?

Why am I Getting a Low Nicotine Hit?

This is something you may notice if you’re transitioning from cigarettes to vaping. Cigarettes deliver a higher capacity, more rapid nicotine experience than vapes. Thus your initial vaping experience may seem weaker than expected.

This is common during the transition experience. It can also be fixed by upping the strength of the Vype pods you’re using. Additionally, you can try Vpro pods. They are made with nicotine salts, which offer a faster and more noticeable nicotine rush.

Why am I Getting a Mild Throat Hit?

Why am I Getting a Mild Throat Hit?

Similar to the above question, a mild throat hit may be down to not using a strong enough cartridge in your Vype device. Also consider which kind of pod you’re using.

Vpro pods offer a faster nicotine rush, while standard ePen 3 pods will give a stronger throat hit. If your ePen isn’t producing much vapour, recharge it. As battery life depletes, your device’s output will decrease.

Why am I Getting a Burnt Taste from My Vype?

Why am I Getting a Burnt Taste from My Vype?

If your Vype device is producing a burnt taste, it probably means your cartridge is almost empty.

When there’s a low amount of e liquid left in a cartridge and you try to vape it, this will cause the wicking material inside the cartridge to burn. Simply switch to a fresh cartridge.

What Does a Flashing LED Mean?

What Does a Flashing LED Mean?

As mentioned, both the Vype ePen 3 and Vype ePod have LED indication to inform you of things such as battery level. Here’s a handy list of the different LED indications you’ll see on your device. (For LED indicators during charging, see previous section regarding charging your device’s battery.)

ePen 3:

  • White LED, flashes 5x: dry puffs, time to change cartridge.
  • White LED, flashes 10x: auto-off.
  • Red LED, flashes 8x, 8-sec automatic cutoff.
  • Red LED on solid or flashing repeatedly: low battery

ePod:

  • Green LED, flashes 3x: short circuit protection, device auto shuts off.
  • Green LED flashes 10x: low battery, requires charge.

How Do I Prevent Issues with My Vype Device?

How Do I Prevent Issues with My Vype Device?

As we’ve seen, the most common issues that users experience with Vype devices are easily solved. Typically, all that’s required is charging your device or putting in a fresh cartridge. In addition, keeping your device clean and keeping it away from high temperatures goes a long way to ensuring it’s always good to go. Keep an eye on your battery levels, and make sure to not let your battery get fully depleted too often - this helps extend your battery’s lifespan.  To recap:

  • Vype device not firing?
    • Check battery levels
    • Devices will automatically power off after a set time
    • Make sure your device is clean
  • Battery not charging?
    • Always use the Vype usb charging cable supplied with your kit
    • Try it with different charger plugs
    • If you have a spare device try charging it to rule out a faulty charger
    • Try not to let your battery get fully discharged, this can make recharging harder
    • It is recommended that you switch devices every 2-3 months
  • Vype device leaking?
    • This is simply excess vapour turning into condensation, and poses no threat. It’s usually caused by puffing too intensely on a device. Condensation droplets will clear up by themselves after a while. Simply wipe excess droplets off the outside of the device with a cloth.
  • Mild throat hit or low nicotine hit?
    • This is normal when transitioning from cigarettes to vaping. Try a higher nicotine refill. Also, consider which kind of cartridge you’re using. Standard ePen cartridges provide a stronger throat hit. Vpro pods, made with nicotine salts, provide a stronger nicotine rush.
  • Getting a burnt taste?
    • This can occur when there is a low amount of e liquid in your cartridge. Simply switch to a fresh cartridge.
